SDM Lawyers Present at State Bar Oil and Gas Disputes CLE

Several SDM lawyers will present at the Texas State Bar Oil and Gas Disputes CLE program in January.

Jane Webre will present a Supreme Court Case Law Update on Oil and Gas Related Cases. Jane practices civil appellate law and handles most of the firm's appeals. She has argued appeals in the United States Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit, the Supreme Court of Texas, and many of the courts of appeals around the state.

Bryan Lauer will participate on a panel talking about Royalty Litigation. Bryan focuses on energy industry litigation and regulatory practice at the Railroad Commission of Texas.

Mark Hanna and John Hicks will present on Retained Acreage and Depth Issues in Oil & Gas Leases: The Courthouse and Regulatory Perspective. In addition to their litigation and regulatory work, Mark and John both counsel clients on a variety of energy-related topics, including title issues, contract issues, royalty payments, and oil and gas lease interpretation. John is Board Certified in Oil, Gas & Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Scott Douglass & McConnico Presents Annual Oil & Gas Seminar

Scott Douglass & McConnico’s annual seminar, “Oil & Gas Regulation in Texas,” will be held September 21, 2017, at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Austin. The seminar is designed to present an overview of current Railroad Commission rules and procedures, related litigation issues, and other oil and gas issues that will be useful to attorneys, engineers, geologists, landmen, and others whose business brings them in contact with the Railroad Commission of Texas or the General Land Office.

The firm has hosted the popular seminar for more than 30 years. Scott Douglass & McConnico attorneys John Camp, Jim Cowden, Doug Dashiell, Mark Hanna,  John Hicks, Olga Kobzar, Bryan Lauer, Carroll Martin, Davin McGinnis, and Flip Whitworth will speak at the event. Among other topics, they will discuss Railroad Commission rules, regulations and hearing procedures, drilling permits and Rule 37/38 exceptions, horizontal drilling, comingling, voluntary and forced pooling, retained acreage clause issues, production sharing agreements, and surface and subsurface use issues.

Ryan Squires and Bryan Lauer Prevail in Civil Rights Trial

Ryan SquiresBryan LauerAfter successfully trying a civil rights case in federal court in Austin, Texas, SD&M partners Ryan Squires and Bryan Lauer won a permanent injunction against their opponent, Williamson County, prohibiting Williamson County officials from asking “any questions, written or oral, of any applicant to an appointed Constable position, regarding their views on same-sex marriage, abortion, or religious affiliation.”  Ryan Squires and Bryan Lauer tried the case pro bono with the Texas Civil Rights Project.
