Mary Byars and David Shank Present State Bar Webcast About Privilege Issues

Mary ByarsDavid ShankSDM’s Mary Byars and David Shank recently presented a TexasBarCLE webcast on important distinctions in Texas law governing the attorney-client and work-product privileges. Their presentation, “The Common Interest Doctrine (or Lack Thereof) in Texas,” addresses Texas’s joint-client and allied-litigant doctrines and explores how they differ from the common-interest doctrine applied in federal court and other jurisdictions. Originally presented via live webcast on December 16, 2016, the one-hour presentation is now available online and is approved for one hour of ethics credit. SDM is pleased to welcome Mary Byars and Willie Cochran to the firm.

Mary ByarsMary Byars earned her J.D. in 2015, cum laude, from Harvard Law School. Mary represents individuals, business entities, professionals, and governmental entities in a wide variety of complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on energy-related disputes, oil and gas matters, and litigation related to real estate development.

Willie CochranWillie Cochran earned his J.D. in 2014 from Stanford Law School, where he served as an Articles Editor for the Stanford Law Review. He joins the firm after clerking for Judge Patrick E. Higginbotham on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He represents defendants and plaintiffs in complex legal matters with an emphasis on commercial litigation, appellate litigation, and energy-related disputes.
