Michael is an accomplished state and local tax attorney with extensive experience representing clients in tax assessments, refund claims, audits, and compliance matters involving all major tax types. He works with a wide range of clients—from local businesses dealing with mixed beverage audits to conducting complex managed audits for Fortune 500 companies.
He and his team have built a strong reputation with the Texas Comptroller’s Office and have developed alternative audit resolution strategies that allow them to achieve results others cannot—often resolving matters efficiently and without litigation through strategic negotiation.
Before joining Scott Douglass & McConnico, Michael served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas, where he represented state agencies, including the Comptroller, in enforcing tax assessments. This experience and the connections Michael has made provides Michael invaluable insight into the innerworkings of the Agency.
