SDM has one of the largest state and local tax practices in the country. We are experienced in cases involving sales and use, income, franchise, property, crude oil, natural gas, insurance, motor fuel, IFTA, motor vehicle, and unclaimed property taxation. Our clients in this area include Fortune 500 companies involved in telecommunications, chemical and petrochemical industries, heavy manufacturing, equipment leasing, defense contracting, cable television, railroads, and pharmaceuticals.
The firm handles the full complement of state and local tax services. We have argued hundreds of administrative appeals of assessments throughout the United States. We have successfully litigated numerous tax assessments in state, district, and appellate courts. We are experienced in working with our clients to plan, document, and implement tax saving strategies, particularly in creating and restructuring corporations, LLC’s, limited partnerships, and other entities.
Finally, SDM has successfully worked to draft and implement tax legislation. In past legislative sessions, we have worked to implement or shape tax legislation dealing with the airline, chemical, equipment leasing, financial, chip manufacturing, telecommunications, and railroad industries. This work includes drafting of legislation and acting as a resource to explain the benefits of proposed changes to the Tax Code.
