Curtis Osterloh to Speak about AI and Tax Audits at September COST Meeting

Curtis Osterloh will speak at the 57th Annual meeting of the Council of State and Territorial Organizations (COST) in San Antonio, Texas.

Curtis will participate in the panel “Audit-Tron: AI Meets SALT and the States Strike Back,” which will explore how the increasing use of artificial intelligence by state and local tax authorities is changing the audit landscape.

As tax authorities turn to AI to identify audit targets and refine assessments, taxpayers and their advisors must adapt their strategies accordingly. The panel will discuss practical approaches to defending assessments in an AI-driven environment, including the effective use of data analytics, transparent documentation, and human judgment. Attendees will gain actionable insights into anticipating AI-informed audit tactics and positioning their organizations for smarter, more resilient outcomes.

Curtis leads the firm’s Tax Disputes practice and is looking forward to contributing to the conversation on the evolving intersection of AI and state and local taxation.
